Eight

1.
     Gently the waves rock
Sun hides its face, skies are grey
     The angler smiles wide

2.
     Heat, Salt and Sea Foam
     Bikinis and trunks are fine
     Sand gets in them all

3.
     Page of notes that rings
     Music from the player's hand
     was silent til them

4.
     Friends who live afar
     fill me with nostalgia.
     see who we became.

5.
     Home alone again
Still too far - three days away
     then bliss, contentment.

6.
     Food fried in hot oil
     To become fluffy and light
     is bad for my waist

7.
     Netflix shows are good
But sometimes they end too soon
     Like Marco Polo

8.
     Your ears I will rot
The drivel comes from my brain
     but still makes some sense.

The Haiku is one of my least favourite forms.  It seems childish and irregular, like the jagged and random thoughts of a young person at play.  Yet there is something endearing about both all the same.  And so, I give you eight haiku on this eighth day of October.  I hope you enjoy reading them even more than I enjoyed writing them.

What happens when you see me weak? What happens when I fail? What happens when the dragon shuffles? What happens when you touch his scales? I know a dragon rests inside me, and with spells I give it sleep. And although it flags and drains me a watch on him I'll always keep. Does it scare you that he's hungry? In the dark and dying light? Does it scare you that the binding Might not last another night? With chant and chains and loving words I hold the beast at bay. And feel the warming of the sun, We live another day.

Watching the world fall apart from the back of my canoe. I'd let the sea kill me before any of you. Donald Trump and his party,  Russia, Brexit and drones, I know I am safest when I'm all alone. With the cougars and bears I know them by name, but rich men in groups are hardly as tame. So if travelling you seek me Go look for the fish There you will find me with all that I wish.
